Tree Service in Shiloh, GA

Our Northeast Corner

Tree Service in Shiloh is about as far up U.S. 27 Alternate as our regular area runs. Shiloh is a small city of 402 people in the 2020 census, in the northeast corner of Harris County, roughly 33 road miles from Columbus and six miles south of Warm Springs. It was incorporated in 1961, though a Shiloh post office dates to 1874, and the name comes from Shiloh Baptist Church. At about 892 feet, it is one of the higher towns we work in.

Shiloh has been small for a long time

The census record is steady: 298 residents in 1970, 392 in 1980, 423 in 2000, 445 in 2010 and 402 in 2020. A town that has not grown much has not been bulldozed much either, so many lots keep trees that have been there for decades. That is good for shade and bad for anyone who has not had those trees looked at in years. Older oaks and hickories collect deadwood, and the big limbs that were fine at forty years old are heavier at seventy.

A county line next door

Shiloh is close to Meriwether County, and that matters in summer. Meriwether is on the Georgia Forestry Commission's list of 54 counties under the EPD summer burn ban from May 1 through September 30. Harris County, where Shiloh itself sits, is not. If your land is in Shiloh, hand-piled yard debris can be burned without a GFC permit as long as you follow the safety rules. If your property crosses into Meriwether, those summer restrictions apply to that side.

How a Shiloh job is usually priced

Because it is a longer drive for us, we try to make every Shiloh visit count. A few things help keep the price fair:

  • Bundle work: two or three trees in one trip cost less per tree than three separate trips
  • Say what you want done with the wood; keeping firewood is often cheaper than hauling
  • Note any soft ground, septic fields or narrow gates so we bring the right equipment the first time
  • Send photos ahead if you can, so the visit can be quick and specific

The written estimate lists each tree and each task with its own price.

Wind on high ground

Higher, more exposed lots catch more wind than sheltered valley yards. Pines that grew in a stand and then lost their neighbors to clearing or storms are the trees we worry about most up here. If a pine suddenly stands alone next to your house, have it checked.

Lines on rural roads

In this part of Harris County, many homes are on electric cooperative lines. Diverse Power lists both Harris and Meriwether among the counties it serves, and Flint Energies lists Harris. Limbs touching a primary line are a job for the utility.

Shiloh Questions

Do you really come up to Shiloh?

Yes. It is at the far end of our area, so we try to schedule Shiloh visits together. Call (762) 240-3944 and we will set a date.

My old oak has a lot of dead branches. Is it dying?

Not necessarily. Older trees shed interior and lower limbs naturally. Dead wood high in the crown, bark falling off or mushrooms at the base are more serious. We check during the free visit.

Can you leave the wood for firewood?

Yes, cut to the length you want. That often lowers the price because we haul less.

What should I do with a pine that suddenly stands alone after clearing?

Watch it for a couple of seasons, especially after soaking rain and strong wind. Look for a new lean, cracked or lifted soil at the base, or browning needles. If any of those show up and the pine could reach the house, call (762) 240-3944 and we will look at the root plate and crown before deciding whether it should come down.
