Up the Highway, Into the Piedmont
Tree Service in Cataula follows U.S. 27 north out of Columbus into the Piedmont. Cataula is about 16 miles from Columbus by road, at roughly 692 feet of elevation, and the Census Bureau first counted it as its own census-designated place in 2020: 1,433 people in 519 households, with 568 housing units. The name is said to come from a Muscogee word meaning withered mulberry, and Cataula Creek still runs through it on its way to Mulberry Creek.
Creek bottoms and high ground
Cataula properties tend to have two zones: higher, drier ground where the house and pasture sit, and lower ground along the creeks where hardwoods grow tall and lean toward open sky. Creekside trees grow fast in moist soil and can carry heavy, spreading crowns on comparatively shallow roots. After a run of wet weather, those are the trees we watch. A tree that has started to lean since the last soaking, or that shows soil heaving on the side away from the lean, should be looked at before the next wind.
What brings Cataula owners to call
- A dead pine standing near the house, barn or fence line
- Hardwood limbs reaching over a long gravel drive
- A creek-bank tree undercut by erosion
- Old stumps in a field someone wants to mow or fence
- Storm limbs hung in the canopy after summer thunderstorms
Each of those is priced individually; we do not use a flat per-tree rate because access and drop zones vary so much on rural lots.
Burning, chipping and the summer ban
Harris County is outside the 54-county EPD summer burn ban listed by the Georgia Forestry Commission, and hand-piled natural yard debris no longer needs a GFC permit. That makes burning a common choice for Cataula landowners. The GFC rules still apply: burn only natural vegetation from your own land, keep the pile 25 feet from woodland and 50 feet from structures, stay with it, and do not burn on very high or extreme fire danger days. If you would rather not burn, we chip on site and can leave the chips for mulch.
Electric co-op lines
Rural Harris County is served in part by electric cooperatives. Diverse Power and Flint Energies both list Harris County as a county they serve, and Flint says it trims vegetation along its primary right-of-way and along service drops on member property. If a tree is touching a primary line, call your co-op first; we take care of the rest once the line is clear.
Schools and school-bus routes
Cataula is home to Mulberry Creek Elementary and Creekside Intermediate, and school traffic on U.S. 27 can affect when it makes sense to work on roadside trees. We schedule road-edge work to avoid the morning and afternoon rush where we can.

Cataula Questions
Is there a tree service near me in Cataula, or do I have to call Columbus?
We come to Cataula regularly from the Columbus side, up U.S. 27. Call (762) 240-3944 and we will set a time to look at the trees.
A creek-bank tree is leaning more every year. Should it come down?
Not always, but erosion under the roots is a common reason creek trees fail. We look at how much root is exposed and what it would hit, then suggest removal, reduction or leaving it.
Can I burn the brush instead of paying for chipping?
In Harris County you can burn hand-piled natural debris from your own land without a GFC permit if you follow the distance and attendance rules. Our estimate shows the price with and without chipping.
Who trims trees near the co-op line on my property?
Flint Energies says it trims along its primary right-of-way and member service drops. Check which co-op serves you, and call them for anything on the line itself.
